It's a good time to be a fan of Netflix's The Night Agent, as we already knew – even before the second season had aired – that a third season was on the way. And even better than that, it's now been confirmed that production has started.

Netflix revealed back in February 2025 that work on the new episodes had begun, with series creator, executive producer, and showrunner Shawn Ryan saying at the time (via Netflix's Tudum): "We're so excited to bring new thrills, new worlds, new stunts, new characters, and new adventures to our fans in season three..."

The statement went on to explain that the show would be "spanning the globe", name-checking locations such as "Istanbul", "New York" and "Mexico City".

"Even though we just started filming," Ryan went on to add, "we've already captured some of our biggest, most spectacular stuff yet."

So it sounds like there's a lot of exciting things in store for those who are desperately waiting for more episodes of The Night Agent.

Here's everything we know so far about the returning Netflix hit.

What to Read Next

When is The Night Agent season 3 going to be released?

With filming underway, it's too early yet to have an official date confirmed.

However we know that the hit spy show will be back – and its early renewal was hardly a surprise, given how big the series has become for the streaming platform. Not only was it one of the most successful shows of 2023, but it's also cracked the chart of Netflix's most-watched series of all time.

News of a third season came before the second season had even arrived for audiences to watch, which just goes to show the confidence that the streamer has in the show.

Night Agent's creator revealed at the time (via Tudum): "We're so excited that our fans will get to watch season two of The Night Agent in early 2025, and we've been hard at work writing season three to deliver more breathless Peter Sutherland Night Action adventures to our rabid audience."

As for a specific third season release date, we can only speculate at this point. The first season of The Night Agent launched in March 2023 and the second has arrived in January 2025 – so, if following the same sort of pattern when it comes to time of year, we'd hope for a launch in the first few months of 2026.

Of course, as soon as we have solid news to share we'll update this page.

What is the plot of The Night Agent season 3?

The action thriller is based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, and follows FBI Agent Sutherland as he's thrown into a conspiracy that extends to the highest levels of the United States government.

Show boss Shawn Ryan has previously explained that each season will effectively act as a standalone story, with a few re-appearing characters to tie it all together.

"The initial pitch for this show that we sold to Netflix was that each season would tell its own, mostly self-enclosed, a beginning, middle and end story, and any future seasons would include a few but not most of the characters that we saw in the previous season," the showrunner told Deadline back in 2023.

Ryan noted that this had been the "original plan" and that he still felt it was "pretty solid".

"I don't want to tell this specific story over five seasons, I want to tell this specific story in one season and give some satisfaction to the audience that they see how things turn out," Ryan added. "They learn what the truth is about Peter's father, they learn what the conspiracy was."

With that in mind, the direction for a third season might not become clear until much closer to the time.

How many episodes will The Night Agent season 3 have?

An episode count for the third run of the series hasn't been officially announced.

However both seasons one and two have had 10 episodes each so we'd expect it to follow the same pattern.
