After much anticipation, having been an absolute smash hit on Netflix, The Night Agent season two has finally confirmed its release date – and it's very soon.
The news was revealed alongside a first-look teaser trailer, which announced that the returning show would be streaming from January 23, 2025.
It was no surprise that The Night Agent would get a second outing, as it quickly became one of the streamer's most-watched series ever.
The Peter Sutherland-fronted series proved to be one of Netflix's most successful launches, with show creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan describing the series' debut as a "whirlwind".
"To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix," Ryan continued. "We couldn't be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on season two to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans."
The first season saw FBI agent Peter Sutherland discover conspirators inside the government, along with rogue assassins and a murder witness named Rose who he needs to protect if he is ever going to find any answers.

But is Peter/Gabriel tough enough to survive more than one season of assassination attempts and bomb plots? Here's everything we know about The Night Agent season two.
When will The Night Agent season 2 air on Netflix?
As mentioned above, a release date has now been set for January 23. By the time it arrives, there would have been around a two year gap between seasons – so it's fair to say that excitement will be high.
The Night Agent season two wrapped production back in June. The show confirmed this at the time via its official Netflix X/Twitter account, with an on-set picture captioned: "The Night Agent Season 2 has officially wrapped production!"
The Night Agent author Matthew Quirk has since told fans he'd had a sneak peek at the second season and that there's good stuff in store.
Alongside a snap of Quirk smiling with showrunner Shawn Ryan and DB Woodside, who played Erik Monks in season one, he told fans in the caption: "You never know who you'll run into at Night Agent HQs.
"I was getting an early look at season 2. It's on its way and it absolutely rips."
Who's in The Night Agent season 2 cast?
Thanks to bullets, bombs and a couple of determined hitmen, there are quite a few characters that don't make it to the end of The Night Agent (RIP, special agents Erik Monks and Ben Almora, we'll miss you).
However, some of the main protagonists survive to the end, so we could see them return, provided the creators don't go rogue with the script (more on that below).
- Gabriel Basso as FBI agent Peter Sutherland
- Luciane Buchanan as tech whiz Rose Larkin
- Hong Chau as (former) Chief of Staff Diane Farr
- Sarah Desjardins as VP's daughter Maddie Redfield
- Fola Evans-Akingbola as Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington
- Christopher Shyer as (former) Vice President Redfield
There are plenty of new recruits joining the cast as well. Berto Colon, Louis Herthum and Arienne Mandi will be series regulars, with Brittany Snow and Teddy Sears signing on for recurring roles.
Snow will play Alice, Peter's partner and mentor in his first assignment in Night Action.
Meanwhile, Sears is playing high-level intelligence officer Warren, who becomes the subject of a Night Action investigation.
Colon will play former Marine Solomon, who now works as a fixer, Herthum will play international businessman Jacob Monroe who boasts "powerful global connections", and Mandi will play low-level aide Noor, who considers using her access to top-secret information for her family's benefit.
The Vampire Diaries actor Michael Malarkey and The Expanse's Keon Alexander have also joined the cast as series regulars.
Malarkey takes on the role of Markus, a "military chief and loyal nephew to a dictator newly convicted of war crimes by the Hague" while Alexander's role is Javad, who "oversees security for the Iranian Mission to the United Nations and monitors the loyalty of its employees".
Joining them will be Navid Negahban (Homeland) and Rob Heaps (Station 19) as recurring guest stars.
Negahban has been cast as Abbas, the venerable UN ambassador for Iran, while Heaps will play Tomas, the elitist son of the aforementioned dictator "who is keen on restoring his family to power".
What will happen in The Night Agent season 2?
The Night Agent's first season leaves things open for Peter and Rose. There's plenty to chew on for a second season – and beyond – but don't expect a traditional follow-up.
"The initial pitch for this show that we sold to Netflix was that each season would tell its own, mostly self-enclosed, a beginning, middle and end story, and any future seasons would include a few but not most of the characters that we saw in the previous season," showrunner Shawn Ryan told Deadline.
"That was the original plan. I think it's still a pretty solid plan. To me, it was important. I don't want to tell this specific story over five seasons, I want to tell this specific story in one season and give some satisfaction to the audience that they see how things turn out. They learn what the truth is about Peter's father, they learn what the conspiracy was."
The fallout from that is set to shape Peter's journey in season two. Basso told Entertainment Weekly: "It'll fill him with a lot of bitterness toward people who might have killed him and robbed him of justice because he was going to be tried."
He added: "It might be nice to see Peter be angry at those people, and he has the skills to exact that revenge. Tethering that revenge to what he knows he should be doing might be cool. You're gonna see a lot more inner turmoil on Peter's end."
All this turmoil will presumably prompt Peter to explore what Ryan has been longing to dig into.
In the aforementioned interview with Deadline, Ryan also shared the questions he would "love to answer in a potential season two", saying: "What does it mean that Peter would be a night agent? Where is he going? Now that Rose is going back to California to try to restart her tech career, where does that leave Peter and Rose?"
In the final episode, having saved the day (and the President) from VP Redfield and Diane Farr's assassination plans, Peter and Rose have a romantic goodbye as Peter prepares to take on his first secret mission as a Night Agent. He doesn't know where he's going or what his assignment will be, but he promises to call her when he can.
Ryan confirmed he's thinking about what could be next for Peter and what that finale scene could mean for his relationship with Silicon Valley CEO Rose.
"That's one of the big questions we'd love to answer in season two," Ryan told Netflix's Tudum. "What does Peter getting on this plane and going somewhere (presumably overseas to enter into some new wild adventure) mean, with Rose going back to California to try to pursue her Silicon Valley dreams again? We certainly have some initial ideas."
Luciane Buchanan, who plays Rose, also told Netflix she hopes her character continues her journey after she lost her cyber tech company when she was betrayed by a friend.
"[The ending] leaves it really open-ended… I also want closure for her, I'm like, 'This girl needs a lot of therapy after everything she's been through'," she said.
Elsewhere on the show, we're sure that a bullet hasn't stopped Diane Farr (Hong Chau) from scheming her way back into the White House, even if it looked more likely she was heading for the Big House at the end of the series.
Another character to watch could be the nefarious mogul Gordon Wick (Ben Cotton), who slithered away from any consequences at the end of season two.
"We liked the idea that this wasn’t so clean," Ryan said of Wick's escape. "That there is one person who, because of his resources and everything, is able to slink away. Maybe we'll deal with him again in some way."
The show's creator Shawn Ryan has also inked an official four-year overall deal with Netflix, Deadline reported. This could open the door to expanding The Night Agent universe into a franchise for the streamer, with potential spin-offs on the cards. For now, watch this space.
