Enola Holmes 3 finally hit Netflix last week, four years after the previous movie, though it seems it hasn't quite made the splash of its predecessors. Could the future of the franchise be in doubt?

The third entry in the detective series sees Millie Bobby Brown's titular detective prepare to wed Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge) – though things take a turn when her brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) is kidnapped.

While the movie appears to be doing well so far following its debut last Wednesday (1 July), (it's sitting at number one on Netflix's Top 10 movies list with 20.7 million views so far), looking closer at the numbers, things don't appear so rosy.

According to What's On Netflix, previous film Enola Holmes 2 debuted to a larger 29.3 million, which would indicate a 29% drop. Data for the first entry isn't available.

However, the last movie landed on a Friday rather than a Wednesday, meaning it took three days to achieve that debut over its first weekend.

By comparison, Enola Holmes 3 took its 20.7 million over five days, which means a larger drop of 58% in comparison. Add to that the fact that the first two movies haven't reappeared in the global movies chart (though they have cropped up in a few dozen regions), it suggests that appeal for the franchise could be potentially waning.

The new movie also hasn't had the strongest debut in terms of general 2026 Netflix movies, sitting behind the likes of The Rip, War Machine, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and Office Romance.

What's On Netflix also notes that Enola Holmes 3 is unlikely to hit Netflix's all-time Top 10, and generally questions whether a fourth movie will be greenlit.

However, Enola Holmes 3 received a reasonably positive reception from critics, taking in a 67% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 61 reviews.

In Digital Spy's three-star review, we said: "The mystery might not be as satisfying, but the core ingredients of the series remain as enjoyable as ever."

Enola Holmes 3 is streaming on Netflix. Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2 are available on the same platform.
