Timothy Spall has joined the cast of Netflix spy thriller The Lords' Day. The upcoming six-part series is led by Damson Idris, who plays a highly skilled spy who becomes caught up in a seize of the British government.
Alongside Spall, Netflix announced on Instagram the casting of Killing Eve's Gemma Whelan, Alma's Not Normal's Sophie Willan as well as Harry Lawtey and Arsema Thomas.
The Lords' Day promises to be an "electrifying ride through England’s halls of power", according to the streamer.

The synopsis for the series (via Tudum) reads: "On the State Opening of Parliament, British spy Harry Jones (Idris) finds himself inside the Palace of Westminster amid a lockdown.
"As a hostage siege escalates, loyalties are tested and selfless sacrifices are made, leading to a desperate fight for survival where not everyone will emerge alive. Can Harry use his skills and training to be the country’s saviour?"

The Lords' Day is adapted from the 2007 book by Michael Dobbs, who also penned House of Cards. The novel current has a 4.2 out of five rating on Amazon, with one reader writing: "The twists and turns of the plot make it a page turner worth reading almost in real time."
The series has been written by Humans creators Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, and will be directed by The Missing's Ben Chanan.

Idris first came to attention after starring in the FX crime series Snowfall, and most recently appeared in F1 alongside Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem.
Last year he wrapped filming on upcoming fantasy flick Children of Blood and Bone, adapted from Tomi Adeyemi's bestselling novel of the same name. The actor stars alongside Doctor Who's Tosin Cole and The Hunger Games' Amandla Stenberg, with the film scheduled to be released on 15 January, 2027.
Netflix is yet to set a release date for The Lords' Day.
