Heartstopper fans are in for a treat. Netflix has just announced that it will be dropping a special documentary celebrating the franchise. The behind-the-scenes special, titled Heartstopper: Ending on a Hi, will debut on Friday 24 July, a week after Nick and Charlie's story draws to a conclusion in Heartstopper Forever on Friday 17 July.

The streamer has teased what fans can expect from the documentary in a synopsis, which reads: "Heartstopper: Ending on a Hi is a behind-the-scenes special celebrating the conclusion of one of Netflix's most beloved series.

"Drawing on unseen archival footage spanning every season through to the final film, the special brings together the cast, creator Alice Oseman, executive producer Patrick Walters, and the fans who made Heartstopper a global phenomenon.

"Through candid interviews and fan voices, it charts the show's creative journey, cultural impact, and lasting legacy – a love letter to the community it brought together. Because every ending is also a beginning. Somewhere, someone is about to say 'hi' for the very first time."

The finale marks a change in the franchise as Heartstopper moves from series format to a movie. According to the synopsis, Forever will test the titular characters' relationships in ways it never has before.

What to Read Next

It explains: "Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet.

"Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?"

Speaking on the final chapter of the franchise, creator Oseman told Tudum: "On a basic level, of course, I want the movie to be a beautiful and emotional send-off for the Heartstopper story – celebrating what Heartstopper means to people, while offering a chance to say goodbye to our beloved characters and many hints of what's to come in the characters' future lives.

"On a slightly deeper level, I think this movie will explore what makes love survive, or what elevates it, or deepens it. At 18 and 17, Nick and Charlie are hurtling towards their adult lives. Many teenage relationships don't survive that pivotal moment of change. Are Nick and Charlie a forever love? If they are, why?"

She added: "I want the movie to capture this transitional moment for them as a couple – from teens to adults, from teen romance to forever love, from past to future.

"And in doing so, get to the heart of what teenage love can become as adolescence becomes a memory, and what teenage love can mean for people in the overall picture of their lives. An exploration of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings, and the core element of Heartstopper: the ordinary magic of our everyday lives."

Luke Hyams is director on Heartstopper: Ending on a Hi, while Sunita Mirchandani Hyams will serve as executive producer. The production company is Pangaea.

Heartstopper: Ending on a Hi will debut on Friday 24 July on Netflix. Heartstopper: Forever will also debut on Friday 17 July. Seasons 1-3 are already available to stream now.
