The Secret Agent – which stars a winning combination of Stephen Graham, Toby Jones and Vicky McClure – is on Netflix right now.
The spy drama first aired on BBC One back in 2016, and is based on the classic novel of the same name by Joseph Conrad. The three-part series was written for screen by Tony Marchant, who had also previously brought the drama Public Enemies to the BBC.
Set in London in 1886, The Secret Agent's synopsis (via BBC) explains that the owner of a Soho shop, who "doubles as a spy for the Russian embassy", ends up "dragging his family into a tragic terror plot".
Jones plays the part of main character Mr Verloc, the titular secret agent, while Graham takes on the role of London's Chief Inspector Heat, with McClure portraying his wife Winnie.
When announced for the role, made famous by the book, Jones said: "I am both excited and intrigued by the challenge of playing Verloc, the eponymous hero of Conrad's startlingly relevant novel The Secret Agent."
