Will Ferrell will mark a career first with his upcoming Ted Lasso-like series for Netflix.

The comic actor will front a currently untitled 10-part comedy series for the streamer, with the action following Lonnie 'The Hawk' Hawkins (Ferrell), a "legend" from the world of golf (via Deadline and Tudum).

The project, which sees Ferrell lead a TV comedy for the very first time, also features Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, and Fortune Feimster in supporting roles, while big-name filmmakers such as Rian Johnson and David Gordon Green serve as executive producers.

The series was greenlit in April 2023 under the working title of Golf, with Ferrell co-creating the series alongside Josh Rabinowitz and Ramy Youssef. It seems they have both left the project, with Deadline not reporting their involvement in the latest update.

Harper Steele will also serve as an executive producer, marking another collaboration with Ferrell following the critically-acclaimed documentary Will & Harper, which was released on Netflix last year.

Boasting a near-perfect approval rating of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes from 122 reviews, Will & Harper follows the pair as they embark on a 17-day road-trip across America following Steele's gender transition.

In our review of the film, we wrote: "Will & Harper is a necessary smorgasbord of comedy, togetherness and understanding that does more for education and awareness than any dry diversity and inclusion training on Zoom could accomplish."

"It’s a generous, sensitive study of allyship and what that really means in the day-to-day with Ferrell working out in different, often potentially dangerous, situations how to do the right thing," noted The Guardian.

"The film’s most powerful achievement is perhaps also its most basic: the simple sight of two friends talking, openly and gently, about all the things on their minds," opined Vulture, while Mashable called it "resoundingly joyful and moving".

While Ferrell's comedy series is still some time away from being released on Netflix, the streamer recently unveiled the first look at I Will Find You, a new thriller based on Harlan Coben's bestseller of the same name.

Will & Harper is streaming on Netflix.
