Netflix is turning the beloved and highly-competitive board game Monopoly into a TV series.

According to Deadline, the streaming service has landed the rights to make a reality competition adaptation of the iconic board game following a bidding process.

The Monopoly TV series will bring the classic game to the real world in "a large-scale social-experiment contest" which will see strategy, alliances and cutthroat competition collide while contestants battle it out to win.

Navigating "the fine line between capitalism and chaos", friendships will be tested as players attempt to acquire riches and to own everything they can using any means necessary.

This follows on from the success Netflix has been having in the unscripted space, particularly with IP tie-ins. Shows like Squid Game: The Challenge proved to be a big hit and the streamer is currently working on The Golden Ticket, a game show based on the fictional world of Willy Wonka.
