Netflix's new medical drama Pulse has earned its place in the streamer's most-watched chart despite receiving mixed reviews.

Starring Willa Fitzgerald (Reacher, Strange Darling) as third-year resident Danny Simms, the Miami-set hospital drama is now fourth in the TV top ten on the platform, behind Adolescence at number two.

The series follows a group of doctors at a fictional Miami hospital, with the first few episodes focusing on the devastating consequences of a hurricane which brings in multiple patients.

Alongside Fitzgerald, Pulse stars Colin Woodell as Chief Resident Xander Phillips, who Danny has just reported for sexual harassment to HR.

The cast is rounded out by Jessie T Usher as Sam Elijah, Justina Machado as Natalia Cruz, Jack Bannon as Tom Cole, Daniela Nieves as Camila Perez, and Chelsea Muirhead as Sophie Chan.

The stacked ensemble and the medical setting call for Grey's Anatomy comparisons. However, unlike the long-running show, Pulse doesn't seem to afford its characters the time to build some complex storylines and relationships.

"The relationships and the central people should be at the heart of the show, and it feels as though Pulse forgets this," Digital Spy's three-star review of Pulse read, adding that the show "does a somewhat solid job, even if it's not perfect".

While a FandomWire review has branded the series "heart-pounding and insanely addictive", Decider is advising viewers to skip it, calling the show "eye-rolling".

"Pulse is one of the most generic medical dramas we've seen in some time, with characters who aren't compelling and medical situations that are eye-rolling to watch," its 'Skip It Or Stream It' column noted.

In case you do want to stream Pulse and join the many other viewers who are giving it a go on Netflix, all ten episodes are currently available to stream.
