EastEnders star Linda Henry has admitted that she cried when she heard about her character Shirley Carter's new storyline.
The actor wasn't giving anything specific away about the plot during her appearance on EastEnders: Secrets From the Square tonight (August 24), but it sounds like there's an emotional twist in store for Shirley when the soap returns to screens next month.
"I can give you a clue about what's going to happen with Shirley. The past comes out and bites her on the bum," Linda teased during the programme.

Co-star Luisa Bradshaw-White, who also featured on Secrets From the Square on Monday, also shared that it's a "really, really awesome storyline".
"I only found out about 10 minutes ago," she explained, before adding: "We are really excited about it though."

And when Luisa then added that Linda cried when she heard the storyline, Linda admitted that she did.
"It's going to be brilliant," she added.
Shirley Carter has been a staple of Albert Square since Linda first appeared on the soap back in 2006, and this wouldn't be the first time that a secret from the character's past has come to light.

EastEnders recently revisited an iconic Carter storyline as part of its Classic EastEnders schedule, flashing back to 2014 as Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) learned that Shirley was actually his mother, and not his sister as he'd been brought up to believe.
Shirley's new emotional storyline won't be the only development to rock the Carter family when the soap returns either, as Danny Dyer has previously teased that his character Mick is set to have the "best story ever" when EastEnders starts back up again.
While Danny's on-screen wife Kellie Bright also teased some "testing times ahead" for the couple, who will be adjusting to life away from the Queen Vic in the new episodes, Luisa Bradshaw-White also recently teased that Tina Carter will be on the look-out for love too.
It looks like there's a busy few months ahead for the Carters!
EastEnders: Secrets From the Square continues on Tuesday (August 25) at 7.30pm on BBC One, featuring stars Lorraine Stanley, Jessica Plummer and Toby-Alexander Smith.
