If you're looking for a new watch on Friday night, then look no further than The Housemaid. With Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in the central roles, this delightfully trashy psychological thriller is a glorious piece of camp.
The film is based on Freida McFadden's 2022 novel of the same name, and follows the troubled Millie Calloway as she seeks a job as a live-in maid for a wealthy family. She gets more than she bargained for, however, with plenty of secrets lurking under the surface.
Written by Rebecca Sonnenshine and directed by Paul Feig, the pulpy thriller was a hit at the box office as it grossed over $400 million worldwide, and it has now landed a new streaming home in the UK.

In addition to its success at the box office, The Housemaid was generally praised by critics, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting a solid approval rating of 74% from 201 reviews. The audience score, meanwhile, is markedly higher at 92%.
"An exercise in throwback hopscotch, with touches of '90s domestic-interloper thriller and the Hitchcock mysteries that inspired them," noted AV Club, while MovieFreak.com dubbed it a "goofily inspired romp".

The psychological thriller is currently available to stream in the UK on Prime Video, having been added to the service on Thursday (9 July). You can also rent or buy it on the same platform, for £4.99 and £9.99 respectively.
Furthermore, there's good news for fans as a sequel has already been greenlit, with Feig and Sweeney both set to return. McFadden has already published two follow-ups to the original novel, so there's plenty of material to choose from!
