Alison Hammond got the royal treatment on This Morning today (10 July), as Prince Harry appeared on the ITV series. The pair were at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre (NEC) to preview next year's Invictus Games, and even had some things in common.

The episode was hosted by Dermot O'Leary and Angela Scanlon in the studio, with Hammond going out in the field as she returned to her hometown. While there, she chatted with the Duke of Sussex, and the pair took part in some races.

"I’m here celebrating the fact that the Invictus Games are going to be here in exactly one year's time," said Hammond. "The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, is going to be here and if you turn the camera, he’s just there."

After they participated in various races and challenges, Harry shared that he and his children were particularly fond of Hammond due to her role on The Great British Bake Off, as well as expressing love for spin-off series Junior Bake Off.

"By the way, my kids love Junior Bake Off, absolutely love it, I love it as well," he said. "They found out that I am one of your secret admirers and that I follow your every move. They said 'who do you want to imitate?' and I said, 'Obviously Alison'."

Hammond later invited the Prince around to her house for some ackee and saltfish, with the presenter quipping that she would have a "little tidy up" before "bleaching the toilet", with Harry joking: "I'll bleach your toilet for you! For you, anything!"

The pair were there to discuss the Invictus Games, which will take place at the NEC next year. The event was founded by Harry, with participants being wounded, injured or sick personnel from the military service.

"Birmingham is the centre point where so many wounded soldiers came through from Afghanistan," he explained. "So this is a real homecoming for many of them. It’s quite a moving return for these guys, and it means a hell of a lot.

"There’s just a huge amount of respect, hope, admiration and inspiration. No matter who you are, if you're lying on the couch with a broken back, or whatever injury or illness you’ve had, you look at these guys and think ‘well if they can do it, I can bloody well do it.'"

"For all the military training that everybody has, there’s resilience in every single one of us," he added. "How you decide to use that trauma, experience or loss - I think that’s how people connect to it."

This Morning airs on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
