Exclusive: Coronation Street's Sam Aston praises young co-star ahead of Joseph's return

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Sam Aston has commended his co-star and on-screen son Will Flanagan, ahead of Will's character Joseph Winter-Brown returning to our screens.

Having been notably absent from recent scenes, Joseph will be back in focus next week in a new storyline, when it transpires that his grandmother Linda Hancock can no longer pay his private school fees.

However, when his father Chesney comes up with the money, Joseph must apply himself at school after previously getting a bad report for failing to do his homework.

Now that his place at Oakhill School is safe, will Joseph apply himself and succeed academically?

When speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Sam enthused about Will's performance, and his conduct off-screen.

"Will is absolutely top," Sam grins. "He’s a really nice lad and he’s become one of my best little pals. Every now and again, we might go and play golf or something like that.

"Dolly-Rose [Campbell, aka Gemma] takes the mick, actually, because I’m a bit of an old soul, and she calls me, 'Old man Chesney.' Now Will’s getting into golf, and he’s a little bit of an old soul, she’s like, 'You’ve turned him into old man Chesney!'"

Sam also teased what could be ahead for Chesney and his wife Gemma Winter-Brown, pointing out that the couple don't often get good luck due to the hardships they've faced together.

"It’s nice when they’re a happy family," Sam says. "They’ve been through a lot between the two of them. But it’s always fun to film some of the drama, so as long as Chesney’s there, I’m happy either way. We’ll have to see; obviously they don’t get lucky, do they, let’s be honest!"
