The first trailer for Ella McCay, a new comedy drama starring Emma Mackey and Jack Lowden, has officially landed.
Arriving in cinemas on 12 December, the film is set in 2008 and follows Ella (Mackey), a thriving young politician, as she attempts to balance the highs and lows of her ever-complicated family life with her flourishing career.
Boasting a stacked cast, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Woody Harrelson, Rebecca Hall and Julie Kavner also appear.
James L Brooks, the Academy Award-winning writer and filmmaker behind As Good as It Gets (1997) and Spanglish (2004), directs.
A major milestone, Ella McCay will mark Brooks' first film in over a decade, after helming 2010's How Do You Know, starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson.

Speaking about his latest project, Brooks told The Hollywood Reporter: "I came from a family that wasn't roses and warm bread, and so I wanted it to be about one errant parent and getting over the loss of a parent. I never want to do anything that's not a comedy, and I always want to represent life."
Revealing how Mackey secured the titular role, he added, "I was in an audition process for a long time.

"I went to London, and very late in the game, she turned up, and that was it. In my mind, I pictured the kind of heroines that we had in the '50s and '60s, early Katharine Hepburn and Rosalind Russell.
"There's a certain kind of great movie star we used to have, and Emma has a lot of those same qualities."
