Netflix has released a series of first-look images of Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Frankenstein movie, giving fans a glimpse at the latest incarnation of the famous monster.

Adapted from Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel and starring Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, the film follows the egotistical scientist as he uncovers the secret to creating life.

Per the synopsis, Victor "brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation".

Looking unrecognisable as Frankenstein's monster is Saltburn actor Jacob Elordi, who has swapped his famous good looks for a more monstrous facade.

Joining Isaac and Elordi on the cast are Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Slated for release in November this year, the film has been ten years in the making, with Del Toro previously thanking Shelley during his 2018 BAFTA acceptance speech.

"The most important figure from English legacy is, incredibly, for me, a teenager by the name of Mary Shelley, and she has remained a figure as important in my life as if she were family," he said.

"And so many times when I want to give up, when I think about giving up, when people tell me that dreaming of the movies and the stories I dream are impossible, I think of her."
