There have been many screen versions of Frankenstein, but Guillermo del Toro's upcoming take on Mary Shelley's classic might be one of the most-anticipated yet.

Netflix has announced today that Frankenstein will be released on the streaming service in November 2025, although we don't yet have a specific release date.

To mark the exciting news, we have also been treated to a first look at Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein who, as ever, brings a creature to life in an experiment which ultimately leads to his downfall and his monster's undoing too.

Guillermo del Toro has written and directed Frankenstein, which also stars Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster.

What to Read Next

It was a role that was originally intended for Andrew Garfield, who had to drop out as a result of scheduling conflicts. In December 2024, Garfield said he was "disappointed" to miss out, but was "very glad" Elordi took over.

"Meeting Jacob felt really serendipitous so that I could really see and hear that, 'No, maybe he needed that experience more than me'. That was cool, to feel that he had a really spectacular time on that job," he told Deadline.

We don't yet know what Elordi looks like as Frankenstein's monster, but in del Toro's hands, we're sure it'll be memorable.

It's not the only Frankenstein movie we'll see this year as Maggie Gyllenhaal's new movie The Bride! is released on September 26 in cinemas.

The movie is a new adaptation of Bride of Frankenstein and stars Christian Bale as Frankenstein's monster and Jessie Buckley as Frankenstein's bride.

Frankenstein is released on Netflix in November 2025.
