Netflix's crime drama Monster has announced the official release date of its third season, along with a new poster.

Officially titled The Original Monster, the new batch of episodes will arrive on the streamer on 3 October, and will focus on the murders committed by famed serial killer Ed Gein in 1950s Wisconsin.

Charlie Hunnam will portray Gein in the new season, joined in the cast by Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, Addison Rae, Lesley Manville and Danielle Campbell.

Known as "the godfather of all serial killers", Ed Gein was accused of "killing and desecrating the bodies of multiple women", according to the official synopsis. His crimes went on to inspire multiple classic horror films including The Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The new season is part of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's award-winning anthology series, which follow the lives of "monstrous" figures in society, with each season focusing on a different real-life case involving murder.
