Netflix's new thriller series Untamed has jumped up the charts, becoming the most-watched TV content in several countries within three days of release.

The streamer's latest is now trending worldwide after taking the top spot in the UK, the US, Australia and Canada, to name but a few countries.

Untamed stars Eric Bana as Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) at Yosemite National Park who's called to investigate when a woman's body is found in the park.

Kyle, who's grieving the loss of his young son from six years ago, works alongside his mentor Paul Souter (Sam Neill), Yosemite's chief park ranger.

Also starring are Rosemarie DeWitt as Kyle's ex-wife Jill Bodwin, who used to work as a teacher, and Lily Santiago as rookie NPS ranger Naya Vasquez, who relocated to Yosemite from Los Angeles and is investigating the murder case with Kyle.

Wilson Bethel stars as ex-Army ranger Shane Maguire, now working as the wildlife management officer at Yosemite, while Josh Randall plays Jill's new husband Scott.

Created by Twisters screenwriter Mark L Smith with Elle Smith, Untamed has been described as a "gripping" murder mystery with "shockingly unexpected twists" in IMDb audience reviews.

Meanwhile, the series has a 79% critics' approval on Rotten Tomatoes, where it's Certified Fresh out of 38 reviews.

Some critics have been praising the performance from Bana and the writing, while acknowledging the story may occasionally feel too familiar.

"Bana and Smith know how to keep you watching, even when parts of the story start to feel familiar. In the summer, we're all tourists. A Yosemite story hits just right," Slate's review reads, while Vulture wrote that the series doesn't deliver following the "banger" opening scene.

Untamed is streaming on Netflix worldwide.
