The release date for the third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty has been confirmed.

Season 3 of the Prime Video teen drama will premiere on 16 July, and contains 11 episodes.

It was announced earlier this year that the third season of the show would be its last.

While fans were disappointed, it makes sense, as there are only three novels that the show is based on, with one novel per season. The books' author Jenny Han serves as showrunner for the TV adaptation.

The official logline for the show calls it "a multi-generational drama that hinges on a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship. It is a coming-of-age story about first love, first heartbreak, and the magic of that one perfect summer".

That love triangle seemingly came to an end at the end of season 2, as lead character Belly (Lola Tung) chose easy-going Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) over his broody brother Conrad (Christopher Briney).

The third season will follow the aftermath of that decision, as happens in the We'll Always Have Summer novel.

We at Digital Spy weren't the biggest fans of the start of season 2, stating that the first three episodes (of eight) moved at a "glacial" pace.

"The longing looks of regret and wanting being tossed back round and round between Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah in the present feel flat," we wrote in our review.

"We get it. Those feelings of passion still exist, yet for us, the passion feels like a waning continuation from season 1."

The Summer I Turned Pretty is available to stream on Prime Video. Season 3 premieres July 16.
