The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 potential release date, cast, plot, trailer and everything you need to know

The Summer I Turned Pretty season two spoilers follow.

What a finale! Season two of The Summer I Turned Pretty saw Belly (Lola Tung) make her relationship with Conrad (Christopher Briney) official at the start of the season — only for the season to finish with Belly ending up with Conrad's brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).

The sting was almost too much for the snubbed Fisher brother to bear, but after some pretty questionable behaviour, Conrad was (just about) able to put aside his feelings for the sake of Belly and Jeremiah's happiness.

We doubt this is where the story ends for these three — and what about the rest of the Cousins Beach crew?

Here's everything we know about The Summer I Turned Pretty season three.

The series' third season was confirmed on August 3 ahead of the show's season-two finale.

"We've been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon," said the head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, in a press release announcing the show's renewal.

"This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. [Showrunner] Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamouring for the third chapter of this story."

In even better news, the next instalment is set to be the longest yet. The Summer I Turned Pretty author and showrunner Han confirmed on Instagram that season three will consist of ten episodes.

However, work on the new season was delayed as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike, with the show making clear that production wouldn't start up until "after labour negotiations with those unions have been resolved".

While the strikes have now ended and Hollywood is back up and running, production on The Summer I Turned Pretty still seems to be moving quite slowly, and the show has not begun filming yet.

Plus, it sounds as though the cast is just as in the dark as we are about the production timeline of season three. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah, wasn't exactly helpful in giving fans an idea of when the cast will be back making the show.

He said: "I think everyone is excited for season three. To finish the story — or at least what Jenny's vision is — I think that'll be super fun. I think we're all looking forward to just being back together. We always have so much fun on the beaches, playing volleyball, going to cool restaurants, and trying out new spots. We're excited to get back together.

"I think we're filming in March. I have zero idea of a script. I don't even know. It could even be, like, filming in October, July. I'm just going off rumours. Sometime this year. Hopefully soon. I hope. That's all I got for you."

So... March, July or October?

In terms of more concrete details, a source has told People that the show is looking to start filming season three this spring in Wilmington, North Carolina, but also said that "nothing firm has been set" by the studio just yet.

Well, Belly, of course.

Lola Tung's character is the spoke which keeps the wheel of this love triangle turning: And what would a love triangle (or Cousins Beach, for that matter) be without the Fisher brothers Jeremiah and Conrad? So naturally, we can expect the return of Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney, who play the boys, respectively.

Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer are expected to return to fill out the core friendship group as Belly's brother, Steven, and her best friend, Taylor, while Jackie Chung will likely reprise her role as her mother, Laurel.

The only real wild card is Rachel Blanchard.

Her character Susannah passed away between seasons one and two, leaving the Fisher boys without a mother.

She, of course, returned during season two in flashbacks, but there's no telling just yet if this was just a one-off or if she will be back for the season three run.

Some new faces from season two that may crop up again next season are Elsie Fisher and Kyra Sedgwick, playing the Fishers' cousin-and-aunt duo Skye and Julia.

The show is based on the books by Jenny Han, which means there's already a rough outline of the direction of season three.

It will mostly follow the narrative of Han's third and final book, We'll Always Have Summer, which kicks off with a two-year time jump.

"I am looking forward to giving the fans the iconic moments of the third book that they're expecting, but also looking forward to being able to hopefully surprise and delight them as well," Han previously teased to Deadline.

Cover your eyes, Conrad and Belly shippers, because Jeremiah and Belly's relationship has stood the test of time. That is until a rumour starts making the rounds — one that might tear them apart.

While Conrad seemed to make peace with the love of his life picking his brother over him, this new development in their relationship could cause him to question where he stands in Belly's life.

There's also a chance he has moved on, but we highly doubt that. So prepare yourselves for more tension to arise in the following season. Will Belly find herself torn between the two once again?

The loss of Susannah was a huge plot point during the second season. Two years may have passed, but her presence was so huge in their lives that we'd expect the exploration of loss and learning to live with it to be a theme that continues to spill into season three — especially now that the beach house is officially Conrad and Jeremiah's.

What their beloved summer home looks and feels like in her crater-like absence will be something we imagine will organically unfold going forward.

We would love to see Belly's storyline expand beyond her relationship with the boys, so hopefully, we'll get a substantial solo storyline.

As filming on the new season is yet to commence, it will sadly be a long while until the summer returns, even in trailer form. But stay tuned, we'll let you know when something lands.
