The Summer I Turned Pretty has shocked fans with a "heartbreaking" update on the show's future.
The Amazon Prime series was renewed for a third season back in August 2023, and fans have been patiently awaiting the new episodes, which are due to arrive this July.
However, in a new update from the streaming service, Prime has confirmed that the show will be coming to end after season three's 11 episode-run.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is based on the Jenny Han book trilogy of the same name and, though an official reason for the ending hasn't been shared, each season corresponds to one book, suggesting the season three is a natural stopping point for the show.

While it might have been an expected conclusion, fans were gutted to hear the news and took to social media to share their sadness. "Heartbreaking news for me," wrote one, while a second said: "Bittersweet ending - fans will cherish the final summer!"
"Oh.. that's not what I wanted to hear," commented one fan, and another added: "The final summer is coming, I'm not ready."

The romance series, which debuted in 2022, follows 16 year old Isabel "Belly" Conklin, as she navigates a tricky love triangle with her childhood friends, the Fisher brothers.
According to the official description, the show is "a multigenerational drama that hinges on a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship. It is a coming-of-age story about first love, first heartbreak, and the magic of that one perfect summer."
In the season 2 finale, Belly (Lola Tung) chose easy-going Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) over his broody brother Conrad (Christopher Briney). The upcoming season will feature the events of the third and final book of the series.
