Mythic Quest, the series from Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney, has been cancelled by Apple TV+ after four seasons.
The comedy show follows creative director Ian Grimm (McElhenney) and the employees of a video game studio as they produce the titular game, depicting the pressures of content creation amid workplace conflict.
Following four critically acclaimed and popular seasons, the most recent of which concluded last month, it has been confirmed that the show has been axed by Apple TV+ (via Variety).
Despite its axing, there is still a tiny bit of life left in the show, with the streaming service set to release an updated version of the finale - complete with a different ending - at some point over the next week.
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, Mythic Quest is coming to a close,” said McElhenney in a statement with executive producers Megan Ganz and David Hornsby. “We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build - and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it.

“To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode - so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”
In addition to McElhenney and Hornsby, the cast for Mythic Quest included Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis, F Murray Abraham, Imani Hakim and Charlotte Nicdao, with the show consisting of 40 episodes in total.

A spin-off show, Side Quest, was also released on the streaming service last month, with the four-part anthology series exploring the lives of the various different people involved in the Mythic Quest game, with its characters ranging from creators to fans.
Whilst McElhenney’s Mythic Quest has been cancelled, the star will return on-screen with close friend Ryan Reynolds for the fourth season of Welcome to Wrexham, with the docuseries following the pair’s ownership journey of the Welsh football club.
Mythic Quest streams on Apple TV+.
