Widow's Bay season one finale spoilers follow.

As the hottest and most cursed streaming destination, Apple TV's horror comedy breakout Widow's Bay is readying for a tourism influx on its previously confirmed season 2. Created by Katie Dippold, the genre-bending series is returning for more scares and giggles after its season one finale's twist, with one of its stars teasing where the story can go from there.

Counting Guillermo del Toro among its fans, Widow's Bay is set in a picturesque island that mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is trying to turn into the next Martha's Vineyard, ignoring the older residents' superstitions. As a disappearance sounds alarm bells for the local population, supernatural occurrences begin to plague the island and interfere with Tom's grandiose plan.

Since its premiere in late April, the show's absurdist developments and hilarious one-liners have been popping up in everyone's feeds after a relatively slow start, making Dippold's series a "sleeper TV hit" (via The Hollywood Reporter) and a strong contender for best new show of 2026.

After the season one finale revealed Tom has a close connection to Widow's Bay's founding father, Richard Warren — the man responsible for the island's curse — season 2 is set to explore how the mayor is guarding the secret that could upend his family.

What to Read Next

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Widow's Bay star Kingston Rumi Southwick, who plays Tom's teenage son, Evan, hinted at "more opportunities" for his character to go wild.

"I'm really excited for not only the mischief he gets into, but the levels that he can get to," he said.

"This is a good way for me personally as an actor to ease myself into it," the star said about turning to comedy. "I think that for season two there's so many more opportunities for Evan to be in a very crazy, funny situation."

Meanwhile, Dippold has cheekily teased season two, saying in a statement the new instalment "is about how everything is great on the island and there's nothing to worry about".

"From the moment audiences arrived in Widow's Bay, they've been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, [director] Hiro [Murai], Matthew, and the entire team have created," said Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV, in a statement. "It's become one of those shows everyone's talking about, and we're thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can't wait to return for another season."

Rhys and Southwick are joined by Kate O'Flynn as Tom's oddball assistant Patricia Moyer, Kevin Carroll as sheriff Bechir Clemmons, Dale Dickey as Rosemary, and Stephen Root as a firm believer of the curse and Tom's nemesis, Wyck Crawford.

Widow's Bay is streaming on Apple TV. A second season has been confirmed.
