Mythic Quest season 3 spoilers follow.

Like those final moments in Return of the King, Apple TV's Mythic Quest is the kind of adventure that has no end in sight. Except, in this case, it's actually a good thing.

Over a year before season three started to air, the show received a rare double renewal, with Apple confirming that both a third and fourth season were in the works.

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, shared the following statement via his press release on October 21, 2021: "Just like critics and audiences all over the world, we fell in love with Rob and his team's sharp writing and full-of-heart, relatable characters that make up the world of Mythic Quest.

"We can't wait for viewers to see what's in store in the upcoming seasons of this brilliant workplace comedy."

So now that season three is done, what does Mythic Quest have in store for viewers in season four? Mythic Quest season 4 potential release date: When's it on?

Up until this point, Mythic Quest fans have been forced to wait between 12-18 months for each season. Pandemic-related delays early on didn't help either, but because this season four renewal came so early, we might be lucky enough to see new episodes by October or November this year, just 12 months on from season three.

If not, then it's safe to assume that season four will be available on Apple TV+ by spring 2024 at the very latest.

All of your favourite weirdos from Mythic Quest season three should be returning for season four, including the following:

• Rob McElhenney as Ian Grimm

• Charlotte Nicdao as Poppy Liwanag / Poppy Li

• Ashly Burch as Rachel

• Jessie Ennis as Jo

• Imani Hakim as Dana

• David Hornsby as David Brittlesbee

• Danny Pudi as Brad Bakshi

• Naomi Ekperigin as Carol

The only major character who definitely won't return is CW Longbottom, after F Murray Abraham's role was written out of the show at the start of season three.

In April 2022, it was announced that the veteran actor wouldn't be back for the third season, but no specific reason was given.

"F Murray Abraham will not be returning to season three of Mythic Quest," read the official statement from Lionsgate. "Beyond that, we do not comment on matters concerning personnel."

Mythic Quest season 4 plot: What will happen?

The end of Mythic Quest's third season shook things up with some major changes.

First up, Jo semi-forced David to fire her so his confidence could be restored after execs pulled the plug on his Mythic Quest movie. "That man in there is a killer," she screamed as she left. "Watch your backs!"

By the end of the episode, Jo and Brad inevitably teamed up again, this time as part of Dana's new rival video game studio (much to the shock of Dana's girlfriend, Rachel). "I'm done working for dysfunctional people, I'm gonna do my own thing ya know?"

That's bad news for Mythic Quest, especially as the game's popularity has been waning under David's rule. He still has a fighting chance though, and it's all thanks to Ian's revelation.

Realising that he is indeed "a terrible partner" to Poppy, Ian admits his platonic love for her, and even eats a slice of buffalo chicken pizza with ranch and blue cheese from the gas station to prove it. And with that, their company is no more.

Instead, Ian and Poppy have decided to return to Mythic Quest, combining their new game idea with David's desperate need for a new expansion pack. Together, they could be unstoppable, unless Dana's new semi-villainous team get in the way come season four. Which you just now they will.

Beyond season four, a new spinoff named Mere Mortals has also been commissioned, which will "explore the lives of employees, players, and fans who are impacted by the game" (via Variety).

These eight episodes will continue in the vein of special Mythic Quest episodes like 'Dark Quiet Death', 'Backstory!' and 'Everlight' which all deviated from the usual sitcom formula to create something extra special.
