Abbott Elementary has revealed an unexpected crossover with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Earlier this year, creator Quinta Brunson teased a crossover episode for Abbott Elementary's fourth season. The star remained tight-lipped about the upcoming collaboration, telling Variety: "Deals are made. I want you guys to know that. I'll say I'm really excited for it."
She added: "You want to find fun ways to shake things up without abandoning what you built. And I'm excited for this crossover of which I will not name the other project."

Now, Brunson has revealed the show will collide with fellow Philadelphia-based comedy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Taking to Instagram, the actor shared a picture of herself with It's Always Sunny's Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day. "Season 4 of Abbott Elementary gets real Sunny :)," she confirmed.

The photo saw the trio posing in their sunglasses, on the set of Abbott Elementary. Fans flooded the comment section to share their surprise and excitement. "Omg could this be the crossover of my dreams," wrote one.

"Not on my bingo card but it makes so much sense. Can't wait," another said, while a third added: "The crossover we didn't know we needed! Bring on the highjinks!"
The image was also shared on X/Twitter by McElhenney, who later posted another shot including co-star Danny DeVito and Abbott Elementary's Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.
Speaking previously about the crossover, Brunson said: "I love TV, everyone knows that, but I love TV moments, and I miss those big TV moments. I remember how exciting they were. Anything I can do with Abbott to help keep that culture alive of fun TV, I will do. So I think this is going to be fun TV."
Abbott Elementary will return on October 9, 2024, on ABC in the US. In the UK, Disney+ streams the show.
