Sir Stephen Fry has finally addressed rumours that he will be appearing on the celebrity series of The Traitors.

A star-studded version of the hit BBC show was confirmed back in August 2024, with the likes of Rylan Clark and Clare Balding being linked to the series. Also among the rumoured cast list was Sir Stephen, who has remained tight-lipped about his involvement.

Speaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival's UK and Ireland Honours event, the former QI host revealed he would be "fired in the driveway" if he let anything slip about the upcoming series.

"I can say that the BBC would slice off my testicles if I were to comment publicly on the possibility of such a thing as dwelling in a castle in Scotland for a week or two – or indeed for a day or two, quite likely," he told Metro.

"I would be fired in the driveway, which is the thing they sometimes do, isn't it, before you even get there, if you say the wrong thing."

Though the presenter was unable to confirm his involvement, he did gush about the "brilliant" show, adding: "I'm not usually a fan of what you might call reality TV, but I think of it more as a game than reality TV. It's just a very clever game, simple but complex as well."

"I'm a terrible liar [though]," he joked, before laughing: "Or am I?"

Sir Stephen also debated whether he'd like to be a Traitor or a Faithful on the show, as he thinks he is "very faithful" in life. "But in a sense we're all traitors too, aren't we?" he considered.

"We're traitors to ourselves, we let ourselves down, betray our ideals… Gosh that got serious very quickly, didn't it? What happened there?" he laughed.

The star reiterated that he's "not supposed to talk about" the celebrity series, before teasing: "Wouldn't it be interesting to do? I think it would…"

The Traitors series 1-3 are streaming on BBC iPlayer. Two more series and a celebrity spin-off have already been confirmed.
