Run Away, the new Harlan Coben thriller starring James Nesbitt and Ruth Jones, has stormed to the top of the Netflix charts. With a plot twist "that will drop your jaw to the floor", it's no wonder that the new series has been popular with audiences.

The eight-part series stars Nesbitt as Simon Greene, a father whose life is turned upside down after his daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange) runs away from home.

The synopsis reads: "A desperate father searching for his runaway daughter gets caught up in a murder case and stumbles upon secrets which could destroy his family for good."

Since its release on Netflix on 1 January, Run Away has made its way to the top of the charts and currently occupies the number one position on the Netflix top 10 shows in the UK list, with Stranger Things taking second place.

Also on the cast are Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, Jon Pointing, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Annette Badland and Ingrid Oliver.

As well as audiences, Run Away has proved popular among critics, scoring an impressive 80% on Rotten Tomatoes from 20 reviews, with many critics noting its twists and turns.

In our review of the show, Digital Spy called the twists "some of the best and most frustrating things about the series", adding that "they are plentiful, and for the most part truly engaging in a way that fits with the nature of the story".

The Travers Take said of the show: "Convoluted is a fair description of the puzzle pieces being assembled, but this Harlan Coben mystery series hits the ground running with a twist ending that will drop your jaw to the floor."

"As disposable entertainment goes, Run Away is effective hokum. And sometimes, particularly on New Year’s Day, that’s precisely what the patient requires," penned The Independent.

Variety wrote: "Full of shocking twists and turns and gruesome violence, which are par for the course with all of Coben’s works, the show is an entertaining maze from its opening scene until the close."

All episodes of Run Away are available to watch now on Netflix.
