Harlan Coben's I Will Find You isn't the only new mystery thriller from the best-selling author that's heading to our screens. Netflix previously confirmed that Run Away, which boasts what Coben himself describes as an "unbelievable" cast, will be arriving at some point – and we think fans should be excited.
Following in the footsteps of Missing You and Fool Me Once (not to mention the unexpected mini-series that was quietly added to the streaming service back in March), Run Away has been filming since January – and we've already had first looks at a number of its stars in action. But more on that later.
The eight-episode series has been inspired by Coben's novel of the same name, first published in 2019. It's fair to say that the book was well-received by Coben fans, with one review on Amazon saying that it "had twists and turns that you'd never expect..."
"An emotional thriller that has you on the edge of your seat from the 1st to the last pages," another wrote, while a different five-star book review noted that it was "full of suspense" and had "bewildering storylines".
As for the plot for the show, the popular author told Netflix's Tudum: "Run Away is about family — about what we will do to keep our family intact, what secrets we keep within our family, and what secrets we keep as a family.
"Every time you walk past the house, there's a whole universe that goes on behind that door and none of us have a clue what it is."
What to Read Next
What is the plot of Harlan Coben's Run Away, coming to Netflix?
Netflix has revealed that the show will focus on a father called Simon, described as "a seemingly lucky man with a loving wife and kids, great job, and beautiful home."
It sounds like his whole world is then turned upside down when his eldest daughter Paige runs away...
According to Netflix, Simon's search for his daughter will see him enter "a dangerous underworld, revealing deep secrets that could tear his family apart forever."
Who is in the cast for Harlan Coben's Run Away?
Coben – also executive producer for the show – has had high praise indeed for the actors that have been brought together for his new project, calling the cast "an embarrassment of riches".
James Nesbitt (The Missing, Suspect) will take on the central character of Simon, and Coben has spoken about what makes him perfect for the role. "Jimmy just has so much range," he told Netflix. "He's so natural and authentic at all times..."
This won't be Nesbitt's first time working with Harlan Coben, having also starred in the previous TV adaptations for Stay Close and, most recently, Missing You.
Run Away will also see Adrian Greensmith, who worked on Harlan Coben's YA series Shelter for Prime Video, once again reuniting with the author.
The role of Simon's missing daughter Paige will be played by Ellie de Lange, who you might recognise from previous roles in the BBC's The Serpent and Wolf Hall.
Fresh off her return in Gavin and Stacey for The Finale, Ruth Jones is another exciting addition to Harlan Coben's stacked new cast. We've already had a glimpse at the beloved BBC star in character on set, and it's been revealed that Jones will play Elena Ravenscroft.
Coben has spoken about how he "can't wait" for viewers to see Jones in Run Away.
"One of the reasons I love her so much is she's just so instantly likeable, and I wanted you to fall in love with this character right away, and I can't wait for people to see Ruth in this role," Coben told The One Show in April.
He also went on to tease that he had watched a scene that she had done with James Nesbitt, adding: "I love the two of them going head-to-head and bonding..."
We have also seen a first look at Tracy-Ann Oberman, probably best known for her role in EastEnders as well as Channel 4's Friday Night Dinner. Her character has been revealed to be Jessica Kinberg, and she was snapped on set wearing wearing a suit, coat and glasses.
Jon Pointing, who played Danny in Big Boys, and Alfred Enoch, who more recently starred in Channel 4's psychological drama The Couple Next Door, are also part of Run Away's exciting roster.
Further names so-far announced include:
- Lucian Msamati (Gangs of London)
- Annette Badland (Midsommar Murders)
- Minnie Driver (The Serpent Queen)
- Ellie Henry (Hollyoaks)
- Ingrid Oliver (Beyond Paradise)
- Joe McGann (Vera)
- Maeve Courtier-Lilley (The Red King)
- Amy Gledhill (Big Mood)
Where is Netflix's Run Away being filmed?
Filming for this new Harlan Coben series began at the start of 2025, and it was revealed that its locations would span Manchester and the north west of England.
"What's wonderful about the north of England is there's such variety," Coben told Netflix. "There's a combination of everyday and eccentric about the settings there."
We most recently had a dramatic new look at James Nesbitt, who was seen filming action-packed scenes as his character Simon who appeared to be desperately trying to rescue his daughter. In the photos, Nesbitt's character could be seen wearing a grey suit and pleading with Ellie de Lange's Paige – also marking the first time that this character had been spotted.
When is Netflix's Run Away being released?
An official release date for Harlan Coben's new limited series hasn't been confirmed just yet, so all we can do is speculate.
For the past few years it's become tradition for a new Harlan Coben boxset to drop on Netflix on New Year's Day – and that has worked out well, with the Michelle Keegan-led Fool Me Once going on to become one of Netflix's most-watched series of all time.
Missing You, with Ashley Walters and Rosalind Eleazar, followed suit in January 2025 – so we could potentially be set to see Run Away take that slot in January 2026.
That being said, we know there are also other Harlan Coben shows on the way – as well as plenty of highly-anticipated returning Netflix hits, so we'll just have to watch this space.
Run Away is set to be released on Netflix, with a confirmed date yet to be announced.
