The Replacement, which first aired on BBC One back in 2017, has been added to Netflix today.

The three-part drama, described as a psychological thriller, stars Line of Duty fan-favourite Vicky McClure and The Bay's former lead, Morven Christie.

Written by Joe Ahearne, whose other TV credits include Doctor Who and This Life, The Replacement is about a woman named Ellen (Christie) who goes on maternity leave. But rather than focusing on this exciting time, she starts to become increasingly paranoid about Paula, who's been hired as her temporary stand-in at work (McClure).

According to the synopsis, "Paula wastes no time in moving in on Ellen's bosses, clients and friends, and Ellen fears she is being forced out. Everyone thinks Paula is great and Ellen is being paranoid, until a site accident puts Ellen's suspicions into overdrive..."

The Replacement has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, and it was widely praised by critics upon its release.

Metro described McClure and Christie's performances as "pitch-perfect" and said that the thriller went from "Hitchcock mode" to "crime caper territory."

Meanwhile, The Times claimed it as "the juiciest melodrama since Doctor Foster", and the Guardian's review said: "It's a joyously bonkers, highly psychological melodrama that starts with a foot in reality and then runs wild. It's ridiculously addictive, though."

Audience responses weren't quite as favourable, though, with one branding the series "a disappointment".

Another added that they thought the series "took a dive of a cliff in the final few scenes", despite the story being "intriguing and full of tension" for much of the episodes.

With The Replacement now on Netflix (it's no longer available to watch on BBC iPlayer), you can decide for yourself.
