Emmerdale reveals new village dispute after deadly storm

Chaos ensued on Emmerdale in recent episodes, with a violent storm rampaging through the Yorkshire Dales.

Sunday's (October 16) hour-long 50th anniversary special saw blustery winds cause havoc in the village, leaving Kim and Harriet marooned in the countryside.

After crashing her quad bike, Harriet was left in peril in the middle of the woods, with a lightning bolt striking her vehicle and causing a massive explosion.

In Monday night's (October 17) episode, the soap revealed that she had tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile, with the village in mourning at Harriet's passing, actress Katherine Dow Blyton discussed her exit from the soap after nine years in the role.

"I will very much miss playing Harriet, although I won't miss wearing the police uniform," she said. "What I loved about coming into Emmerdale and what really made me want to play Harriet was because she was coming in as the vicar. I loved playing the vicar and the fact that she was flawed, and she was a bit off-the-wall. She had a sense of humour, and I loved the character. I'll very much miss her, but she's with me obviously. We're not too dissimilar."

Blyton, who described her final scenes as "emotional", revealed she currently doesn't have plans for her next artistic venture, saying she wants to "decompress and to re-evaluate what I want the next part of my life to be".
