Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has given fans a glimpse of the dangerous cow stampede airing as part of the soap's 50th anniversary episodes.

As a result of the storm, a barn at Moira Dingle's (Natalie J Robb) farm collapses, causing the cows to escape. A newly released image sees the scared cattle charging in a stampede. Will this incident result in injuries for some of the Emmerdale residents?

Speaking about filming the stunt, Emmerdale designer Duncan Howell explained "a cow stampede has not been done on a soap to this extent".

Howell said it was crucial to ensure animal safety during the stunt, which was rehearsed and recorded after careful planning with the farmer in charge of the cows.

"It was really important that this did not cause any harm or stress to these animals. The cattle we used all actually live on the farm," Howell explained.

Production created a new cattle pen near to a run which led down to one of their fields. While the cows would be fed in the pen too, they would naturally gather to go down the run to their field once released.

"We put their food on the back of a feed hopper and whizzed that down first so the cows had seen their food go. So when they came out of their pen they ran as a group to get to the food. It was successful," he said.

Howell also explained that the scenes will feature the animals' point of view thanks to a puppeteered cow's head. This will allow viewers to see the scenes from the cow's viewpoint as they charge towards the residents.

These scenes air tonight.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV, and streams on the ITV Hub.
