Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has explained why her character Cassie Plummer is causing so much trouble for Abi Webster.
Cassie has recently been trying to drive a wedge between Abi and her husband Kevin, although her actions backfired this week when she was finally caught out.
Viewers saw Cassie spark drama at Kevin's garage when she let Abi get the blame for damage to an expensive car.
The injustice was resolved in Wednesday's episode (January 3) as Roy Cropper exposed Cassie as the real culprit. Although Kevin and Abi decided to give Cassie another chance, there was a sense that her manipulations may not be over.

Speaking about the storyline, Claire commented: "I think it's exciting to play because I see elements of Single White Female, which is a film that I love. Cassie just wants Abi's life.
"Does she fancy Kevin? I don't know. I think she just wants that structure of stability. She's seen how Abi has sorted herself out.
"I think it was awful when she blamed Abi for the scratch on the car, but then coming from it logically, Abi was never going to get sacked whereas Cassie would. She just wants to keep the job. She loves working there. She just stepped over the line."
She continued: "It's interesting because Cassie wanting Abi's life is not so far-fetched. It's not like she's looking at someone who, you know, has got a completely different life like Real Housewives, or even looking at someone like Maria who's never put a foot wrong.

"Abi is someone who basically has had her life. You see so many similarities between Abi and Cassie. You can see why she believes she could have what Abi has got and even start to believe she has feelings for Kevin."
Next week's episodes see Kevin heap praise on Abi for her forgiving attitude towards Cassie.
Cassie then becomes intrigued when she spots Abi behaving secretively around Kevin, as Abi has agreed to help a struggling Paul Foreman to score drugs. Will Cassie be able to resist the urge to meddle again?
