Jason Momoa has reportedly exited the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster movie Helldivers, based on the hit video game series. Directed by Justin Lin, the film from PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures is set to adapt the Arrowhead Game Studios’ video game franchise of the same name.
Momoa was initially attached to the project, though the reasons behind his exit are unclear. Sony Pictures are currently searching for a new lead star (via Deadline).
Details of the film adaptation are being kept under wraps, with Helldivers expected to be released in cinemas on 10 November 2027.

The first game, which debuted in 2015, follows the Helldivers, an elite unit who must work together to protect Super Earth while defeating the enemies of mankind in an intergalactic war.
Released in 2024, Helldivers 2 put players in the shoes of the galaxy's most elite soldiers, who use over-the-top weapons to gun down an alien scourge threatening their world.

The Wrecking Crew currently has a 74% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 70 reviews, with critics praising the chemistry between the two leads.

The Hollywood Reporter said: "Movies like this depend almost entirely on chemistry between the co-stars, and fortunately, Bautista and Momoa have plenty of it."
"Momoa and Bautista, who respectively play a loose-cannon cop and disciplinarian special forces operative, have fun with the action sequences and put some genuine effort into the fractured sibling dynamic," penned The Age.
Variety said of the film: "The crux of the movie is how well Bautista and Momoa fire off each other once Jonny returns to his roots in Hawai’i... The action stars may not be great actors in the classical sense but they are more than competent and acquit themselves well."
Helldivers is expected to be released in cinemas on 10 November 2027. The game Helldivers 2 is available on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
