Evil Dead Burn has now landed in cinemas if you need a break from the sun this weekend, introducing us to a new set of unfortunate people whose lives are about to get a lot worse after an encounter with the Deadites.

This time around, our lead is Alice (Souheila Yacoub), who has to endure an awkward reunion with her in-laws following her husband's death. As with Evil Dead (2013) and Evil Dead Rise, Evil Dead Burn is largely standalone – although the opening does reveal what happens to Evil Dead Rise's Jessica – and can be enjoyed without prior knowledge of the series.

However, if you are a fan of the series, trust us when we say you don't want to miss the post-credit scene. In fact, Evil Dead Burn has two credit scenes to enjoy: one mid-credits and one at the very end.

If that's all you want to know before seeing it, then look away now as we're about to go into some major Evil Dead Burn spoilers.

Evil Dead Burn post-credit scene explained

Before we get to the post-credit scene, Evil Dead Burn's mid-credit scene is also a fun one as we see the now-Deadite Polly crawling along a road, having somehow escaped the house after cutting off her one remaining leg.

A car pulls over and a young woman gets out to see whether Polly needs help, which we know she'll come to regret as Polly tells her that she'll "take" her legs instead. We doubt we'll see Polly again in a future Evil Dead movie, but we wouldn't be against it.

What to Read Next

The real treat for fans comes in Evil Dead Burn's post-credit scene though. We head back to the crematorium where Will's funeral took place at the start of the movie. The owner leaves her daughter in a room filled with urns as she goes to check on somebody who's arrived.

Her daughter reads the names on the urns – filled with the ashes of people whose "families never came for them" – and we see a familiar name: Ellie Bixler, the mum from Evil Dead Rise. She gives Ellie's urn a shake and hears a voice saying "don't be scared baby", and as she looks in the mirror, a pre-Deadite Ellie is looking back at her.

She thinks it's just a trick of the mirror, but as she touches her finger to the glass and Ellie replicates it, the lights flicker and Ellie appears behind her, quickly killing her with a single blow. "Mummy's back," a now-Deadite Ellie says with a smirk, and if you're a fan, you'll likely be cheering.

Now, of course, it doesn't really make any sense. The last time we saw Ellie, she was fused to the bodies of two of her three children in a monstrous creation known as the Marauder. The Marauder was forced into a wood chipper by Ellie's sister Beth, and we're not sure anything was left to burn. Even if there was, we'd be surprised if it was recognisable as Ellie.

So we're not quite sure how somebody managed to get ashes from Ellie's body, even if it does make sense that Beth wouldn't go anywhere near them. But if it means we're getting more of Alyssa Sutherland's excellent performance as Ellie in a future Evil Dead movie, we'll ignore any flaws about how it's possible.

It's unclear whether Ellie will be back in Evil Dead Wrath though. The new movie has wrapped filming and is arriving in cinemas in April 2028, but has already been confirmed to be set in the 1970s, before any Evil Dead movie has been set.

Maybe we'll be surprised and there's a secret other Evil Dead movie that's already been filmed and arrives next year. But we fear we'll have to wait for the movie after Evil Dead Wrath to fully see Ellie unleashed yet again.
