Starship Troopers has seen a rise in viewers following the surprise success of Helldivers 2, the new third-person co-op team shooter game from Sony.
Helldivers 2 sees players take on the role of the galaxy's most elite soldiers, using over-the-top weapons to gun down an alien scourge threatening their home planet.
The Starship Troopers-like shooter is thematically similar to the 1997 movie, which is available to watch on Disney+ in the UK, and it's thought to be behind the movie's current rise in popularity.

According to the Television Stats ranking, Starship Troopers is the 19th most popular movie online at the time of writing, with that number climbing from position 109 on February 15 (via Kotaku).
Per Starship Troopers' official synopsis: "In the distant future, the Earth is at war with a race of giant alien insects. Little is known about the Bugs except that they are intent on the eradication of all human life. But there was a time before the war... A Mobile Infantry travels to distant alien planets to take the war to the Bugs. They are a ruthless enemy with only one mission: Survival of their species no matter what the cost…"

Helldivers 2 has also seen growing popularity since its release on February 8, becoming the biggest ever PC launch for PlayStation.

The game is available as a Standard Edition and digital-only Deluxe Super Citizen Edition - both of which have discounts on PS5 and Steam and the game supports cross-play between platforms.
On PS5, fans can get Helldivers 2 for a discounted £29.99 at Currys and Argos - £5 less than the normal retail price.
Digital downloads are also available via the PlayStation Store, and with the game selling out physically at some retailers this may be the best option.
