Natalie Portman film Annihilation has landed a new UK streaming home following its removal from Netflix.
The 2018 science-fiction horror movie follows an all-female team who investigate a quarantined zone that has become overrun with seemingly alien plants and creatures.
Despite being billed as a Netflix Original in many territories, the film is no longer on Netflix but is now available on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.
It might seem confusing, but the 'Netflix Original' label doesn't just relate to content the streaming giant has created but also to projects it has licensed to premiere exclusively on its service.

Annihilation was licensed for most territories by Netflix from Paramount, which created the film and distributed it in the United Strates, even giving it a cinema release. As the licence has now expired, Prime Video was able to pick the film up.

Alongside Portman, Annihilation also stars Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Benedict Wong, and Oscar Isaac. Upon its release, it received rave reviews from critics and was compared to classics like Alien and The Thing.
The film was another success for writer and director Alex Garland after Ex Machina. He later went on to write and direct Men, Civil War, and Warfare.

Garland also reunited with Danny Boyle to write the two upcoming follow-ups to 28 Days Later.
A third new film in the series is also planned, but it hasn't been fully financed yet.
