The Bride!, the Frankenstein-inspired musical from Maggie Gyllenhaal, has seen its release date pushed back to 2026.
The upcoming musical-monster film is a reimagining of the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, which itself was an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 novel, telling the story of the titular scientist who meddles with nature as he creates a creature.
Starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley as Frankenstein’s respective monster and bride, Gyllenhaal’s film takes place in 1930s Chicago, with a murdered woman being given life in a time of “radical social change”.

Initially primed for a theatrical release in October, Variety has reported that The Bride! has been pushed back to March 6, 2026. This means it will avoid Guillermo del Toro’s version of Frankenstein, which is due to be released on Netflix in November.
“In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change,” reads the logline for The Bride!.

The film, which is from Barbarian director Zach Cregger, tells several stories within a small Florida community, which is left reeling after a group of schoolchildren mysteriously disappear in the dead of night.
Teasing “police corruption, generational trauma, witchcraft, blood rituals, and religious abuse”, Weapons also stars Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams and June Diane Raphael.
The Bride! Is scheduled to be released on March 6, 2026, whilst Weapons is due to hit cinemas on August 8.
