Extraction 3 will finally start filming this summer, three years after it was actually confirmed to be in the works by Netflix. It's been a long wait for fans, but at least we know that we're closer to seeing the return of Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake.
In early April 2026, it was confirmed that Hemsworth would be back for the third movie, alongside Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani. Sam Hargrave is back as director, but David Weil has taken over from Joe Russo, who wrote the first two movies. Russo remains on-board as producer through his AGBO company.
To mark the exciting news, here's everything you need to know about Extraction 3.
Extraction 3 potential release date: When will Extraction 3 be released on Netflix?
While we now know that Extraction 3 is happening on Netflix, we don't have a confirmed release date as of April 2026.
After a couple of false starts, the threequel will finally start filming this summer, reportedly from June to October with production taking place in Australia and Europe.
The first two movies were released in April and June, respectively, so if filming does start this summer, then we could potentially see a June 2027 release for Extraction 3 on Netflix. But that's just speculation from us for now.

Extraction 3 cast: Who's going to be in Extraction 3?
The announcement for the third movie way back in June 2023 confirmed that, of course, Chris Hemsworth will be back as Tyler Rake.
We haven't had any other official cast announcements yet, but according to Deadline, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani are coming back as Alcott and Nik Khan, respectively.
Don't expect the return of Nik's brother Yaz (played by Adam Bessa), who was killed off in the sequel. We could, however, see Olga Kurylenko pop up again as Tyler's ex-wife Mia after she was introduced in the sequel.
Extraction 3 plot: What will Extraction 3 be about?
There are still no details about what Extraction 3 will be about, but the path is set thanks to Extraction 2's ending.
The sequel follows Tyler Rake as he achieves an impossible prison break to save his ex-wife's sister and her two kids, who are held captive by Georgian mob boss Davit Radiani.
The extraction is successful, but Davit's death enrages his brother Zurab, who won't stop until he has killed Tyler. After a dramatic chase in Vienna, the mercenary faces the villain and kills him, but the Austrian police storm onto the scene and arrest him and his partner Nik.
At the end of the sequel, Idris Elba's Alcott reappears to make them an offer: they will be released from prison if they do a job for his boss. It remains to be seen who that might be, or what kind of mission they are about to embark on.
Extraction 3 should reveal more about this new job – probably some very difficult extraction, to honour the saga's title – that will challenge Tyler's abilities as a soldier. It's also a new opportunity to bring him and Nik closer together, as we see if there's romantic potential between them.
We also expect to meet Alcott's mysterious boss and find out if he is an ally or a new villain to deal with. Talking to Collider in June 2023, Hargrave said that while they know who the character is, they don't yet know who will play them.
"You just had two pretty wild movies with Tyler Rake. What is going to be upping the ante, what are the stakes? How are they elevated? And by just dropping a single line, like, 'He's a gnarly mother-effer', you're like: okay, one line then says this is someone who might be in the same league as Tyler Rake. Now, I'm intrigued," he said.
Hargrave added: "Who is going to portray that? I think that's the beauty of that line. It's like, now that single line can go out and attract a lot of cool, amazing actors to play that wild character."
It's unclear whether the third movie will have any crossover with the upcoming Extraction spin-offs, which includes TV series Mercenary: An Extraction Series, led by Omar Sy, and movie Tygo, led by Don Lee.
Extraction 3 trailer: Any Extraction 3 footage yet?
Extraction 3 has yet to start filming, so it won't surprise you to know that there is no footage to be seen as of yet. Sorry about that.
Extraction and Extraction 2 are available to watch on Netflix.
