Netflix has confirmed details about the brand-new live-action Scooby-Doo series.
Last year, it was reported that a new show, written by Josh Appelbaum (the Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films) and Scott Rosenberg (the revived Jumanji films), was "nearing a deal" at the streaming service.
Now it's been announced that the show is official happening, with an eight-episode series order.
Story-wise, we're getting a prequel plot. The official synopsis goes: "Based on the characters from Hanna-Barbera, the latest show is a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.
"During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.
"Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets."

There's a few interesting twists here, such as Scoob being a puppy, Shaggy and Daphne knowing each other, and Fred being the weird one. The summer camp being named after franchise creators Joe Ruby and Ken Spears (and the animation company they set up) is also a nice touch.
Among the executive producers is Greg Berlanti, one of the head honchos behind the Arrowverse and the director of Love, Simon.
"One of my first and favorite jobs in Hollywood was sitting with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera while they signed animation cels," he's quoted as saying.

"Josh and Scott and everyone at Midnight Radio have crafted a story that captures their amazing spirits and their genius creation. We are grateful to them and everyone at Warner and Netflix for the partnership in helping bring this iteration of Scooby-Doo to life!"
In recent years, there's been a few animated Scooby films, including one that confirmed Velma is a lesbian, 3D animated film Scoob! and its completed-but-cancelled sequel, and a contentious Velma show for adults from Mindy Kaling.
The new Scooby-Doo show doesn't have a title or release window yet, but will be coming to Netflix.
