Neil Patrick Harris has undergone a drastic transformation for his role in the new Dexter series Resurrection.

The star will appear in the latest franchise spinoff in the role of Lowell, appearing alongside Michael C Hall – who returns as the titular serial killer.

In new filming pictures, Harris is seen alongside his co-star in New York City, sporting a dark hairdo and longer hair while wearing a puffer jacket.

Alongside Harris, Dexter: Resurrection will welcome star Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage in the role of billionaire venture capitalist Leon Prater, who hides a dark secret, while Kill Bill’s Uma Thurman plays Charley, his head of security.

Returning to the fold with Hall are David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Dexter's son Harrison Morgan and James Remar as Dexter's late father Harry Morgan.

The show sees Shadow and Bone’s Patrick Gibson play a young Dexter alongside Mr Robot's Christian Slater, Christina Milian and Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Resurrection will be set in the present day and follows on from the events of New Blood.

Speaking about the new series, Hall said at San Diego Comic-Con in July: “I cannot wait to watch this show. To a certain degree, I have a sense of what is coming.

“I've spent so much time with this character and to go back to have those sort of imaginative blanks filled in this technicolor show… It's amazing.”

Dexter: Original Sin is airing on Paramount+.
