Matilda and Sean made it all the way to the Love Island final, finishing in third place behind Nicole and Ciaran (who came second) and Mimii and Josh (who were crowned the 2024 winners).

Sean and Matilda had quite a bumpy ride during their time on the ITV2 dating show, but finally came together – in most recent episodes, they also declared their love for each other.

But are Matilda and Sean still together now, and what happened after the Love Island final?

Poor Sean had a slow start to his Love Island journey, failing to find a romantic connection and landing himself in friendship couples. But everything changed when Matilda arrived as a bombshell, with Sean instantly saying that he had his eye on her.

The feeling seemed mutual, with Matilda also making it quite clear that she was keen to get to know Sean a little more.

He declared her his "watermelon slice", picking Matilda's favourite sweet correctly, and they just seemed to click.

But then Casa Amor came along, and Sean surprised everyone by seeming open to getting to know some of the new girls. Matilda also had Casa chats while away from the main villa, but Sean took things that bit further by kissing new girl Diamanté.

Ultimately both Sean and Matilda chose to stick with each other, deciding against re-coupling with anyone else. But when details of Sean's behaviour were brought to Matilda's attention, she was less than pleased.

In the end, the couple were able to work it out and move past the Casa Amor drama. A date outside of the villa – which involved a sports car – sealed the deal, with Sean asking Matilda if she would be exclusive.

For their final date night in the villa, Sean organised a sweet and steak-themed surprise, nodding to two meaningful memories from their journey together. (As a quick reminder, Matilda and Sean enjoyed some steak on their very first time meeting earlier in the show).

Their declarations saw Matilda opening up to Sean about how he made her feel, likening it to the 'comfort' that her Gran had always described. As for Sean, he finished his prepared speech by telling Matilda – in front of the other remaining couples – that he was in love with her.

When talking to Maya Jama during the Love Island final, Sean explained that Matilda was "definitely" what he had been waiting for.

"I swept him off his feet," Matilda added.

The Love Island host then asked Matilda about holding Sean accountable during their time together on the show.

Matilda admitted that "sometimes he does need to be put in his place", before adding that "we communicate well" and that she believed they would go "from strength to strength" on the outside.

As for what's next, Matilda joked that she'd be helping Sean with his sweet shop. "It's going to be unreal," Sean added.

After the final, when asked what's next for them as a couple, Matilda said: "Definitely getting our families together. My mum and sister and his mum and sister have been speaking. I reckon they've got a WhatsApp group.

"I feel like we'll have one big party seeing all our family and friends. And then Sean has a date planned that he won't tell me about…"

Sean added: "I just want to make Matilda feel very special but I'm keeping my cards close to my chest."

Looking ahead to the next year, Matilda said, "We just want to have so much fun... We want to travel, have holidays, enjoy life, have new experiences and hopefully go from strength to strength.

"Inside the villa we had such a good relationship from the get-go, and just being best friends."

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
