Love Island just made history, crowning fan-favourites Mimii and Josh as the 2024 winners and making it the first time that a Black couple has won the show in the UK. It's only taken nine years...

Mimii was a breakout star of the season, experiencing heartbreak – and one of the most tense Casa Amor returns we've ever watched – before finding her man Josh, becoming exclusive, and seeing the journey through to the show's final.

The pair seemed genuinely shocked to have been voted in first place out of the final four couples, but fans celebrated as they watched along.

Mimii was quick to say that she "wasn't expecting" to win, before revealing to host Maya Jama that she felt "over-stimulated, overwhelmed [and] grateful" in that moment.

But what happened after the Love Island final, and are Mimii and Josh still together now?

After spending the first half of her Love Island journey with Ayo (which also featured something of a momentary love triangle with late arrival Uma), Mimii was left single after Casa Amor.

Ayo had hit it off with newcomer Jess, but Mimii had decided to stay loyal to her main villa partner, which left her single.

Mimii wasn't sad for too long, though, as Josh soon arrived as a brand-new bombshell with eyes only for Mimii.

The pair spent time talking together in the Hideaway and had instant chemistry. Despite an ongoing narrative that Mimii and Ayo may have still had feelings for each other, which was repeatedly brought up in challenges, Josh stood by Mimii and the pair had strong communication.

A date outside the villa at a local market seemed to solidify their feelings and future together, and Mimii and Josh only grew closer in the ITV2 dating show's final days.

In scenes from their last full day in the villa, which aired as part of the live Love Island final, the remaining couples wrote relationship declarations for one another.

When it was their turn to exchange the words they had written, Mimii told Josh that he was "attentive, kind, gentle and loving", before thanking him for showing her "the qualities that I thought were unrealistic in this day and age".

Meanwhile, Josh told Mimii: "When I'm watching you fall asleep on my chest, it feels like nothing else matters in the world, and I'm at total peace."

Josh had also written a heartfelt poem for her, after Mimii had previously said that nobody had ever done that for her.

When the results were announced at the end of the night, Mimii and Josh took the Love Island crown. Nicole and Ciaran were runners-up, with Matilda and Sean finishing in third place and Ayo and Jess announced in fourth.

Each of their fellow Islanders, who had reunited for the final, seemed pleased by the result, rushing to congratulate Love Island's 2024 winners.

Following the Love Island final, Mimii and Josh have opened up about what's next for them.

"Probably exploring different places, going to the theatre, museums," Mimii said.

"Similar things but there are a few restaurants I want to take her to," Josh added. "Also to find our dynamic outside the villa and get used to that, that's what I’m looking forward to."

Looking ahead to where they might be this time next year, Mimii said "lots of travel" was on the cards for them. Josh said: "I would like to stay in a healthy relationship, hopefully living together, having a good dynamic and thriving in our careers and doing things we love, supporting each other."

Maya Jama posted a roundup from behind the scenes of the final on her Instagram, which she captioned: "Had fun with it..."

The photo dump included a candid shot of her posing with Josh and Mimii, as well as a clip from the moment she announced the result of the public vote.

Maya also took the opportunity to congratulate the winning couple again on her Instagram Stories.
