Foyle's War, the detective drama from Alex Rider creator and Midsomer Murders writer Anthony Horowitz, is now available for even more people to discover/rewatch as it has been added to Netflix today.

Running for 28 movie length episodes between 2002 and 2015, and spanning from World War II to the Cold War, the show focus on the exploits of Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle.

The show does the typical detective drama thing of having our protagonist's method of solving crimes lead to clashes with his peers, but similarly to something like Downton Abbey, it also takes a look at how society has changed over time.

Michael Kitchen leads the castle as Foyle himself, with Honeysuckle Weeks as his assistant Samantha Stewart.

In terms of guest stars, there were so many over the years, including two Doctor Who Doctors in David Tennant and Peter Capaldi, Mary Poppins Returns' Emily Blunt, Gone Girl's Rosamund Pike, EastEnders' Danny Dyer, Sherlock's Andrew Scott, and Game of Thrones' Charles Dance.

The show is a fan favourite, with a 96% positive user score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.6/10 average from over 20,000 ratings on IMDb.

"This is what great TV is," wrote one fan, while another "an astonishing series" and a third called Kitchen's performance "so subtle that he's disarming".

It is similarly a critical darling, with TV Insider stating: "This terrific series—once canceled, then resurrected several years ago – is now really, truly one for the history books".

The blog Crime Reads noted that the time jump in later instalments made the show less of a cozy detective watch, which may not be to everyone's enjoyment.

"It seems that the end of WWII and the start of the Cold War force the series to move into a morally ambiguous and noir-like terrain, which leads to a nostalgia for the certainties of the past that even the characters acknowledge," the blog reads.

Foyle's War is available to stream on Netflix, as well as ITVX and Acorn TV.
