Billionaires' Bunker, the suspenseful and soapy thriller, has climbed Netflix's trending chart after being added to the streamer - but it hasn't proved to be a critical hit despite its popularity.
Set in an underground bunker built 1,000 feet below a lake, the Spanish-language thriller, which is available to view with multiple dubbing options, follows a group of wealthy people as they attempt to shelter from an imminent nuclear war.
Forced to coexist with other elites, decades-long rivalries are reignited as family secrets come to light and tensions rise in the luxury underground shelter, with the synopsis teasing an "unprecedented global conflict".
Created by Money Heist duo Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, the eight-part series stars Miren Ibarguren, Joaquín Furriel, Pau Simon, Alícia Falcó and Natalia Verbeke among others.
Since being added to Netflix on Thursday (19 September), Billionaires' Bunker has clawed its way into the trending chart, with the thriller currently occupying the #9 spot in the streamer's UK TV chart.

Furthermore, the series has proved to be a hit outside of the UK as it currently sits at the top of the streamer's worldwide chart, beating competition such as Black Rabbit and Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (via FlixPatrol).
While the concept is clearly enticing to viewers, reviews have been mixed thus far, with audiences and critics alike offering up a divided verdict on the show.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has an approval rating of just 29% from seven reviews, though the audience score is markedly higher at 59%.
"With eight hour-long episodes, there is plenty of time to cover various storylines and follow the many characters in the series. It does feel a bit soapy at times, but on the other hand, it’s almost kitsch entertainment, so it works," penned Heaven of Horror.

Spanish publication El Pais said: "To watch Billionaires' Bunker, you have to perform a powerful exercise in suspending disbelief and not thinking too hard to overlook the plot holes. We know it's fiction and we're here to play."
Meanwhile, Leisure Byte wrote: "Billionaires' Bunker is fine and nothing memorable, but some of the drama makes you take notice."
Digital Mafia Talkies was particularly scathing as they gave it a one-star review, writing: "If it’s not clear already, don’t watch Billionaires’ Bunker; go and watch Silo and/or Paradise."
Billionaires' Bunker is now streaming on Netflix.
