Sheridan Smith and Daniel Mays' 2012 period drama Mrs Biggs has jumped up the Netflix chart.

The series is currently at number 5 in the Netflix's top 10 most watched TV content in the UK.

Originally released more than a decade ago but added to Netflix earlier this month, the real-life series is inspired by the true story of Charmian Biggs, the wife of the Great Train Robber, Ronnie Biggs.

Smith stars as Charmian Biggs, who acted as a consultant on the series, which originally aired on ITV.

For her performance, the protagonist won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress in 2013 and received nominations at the National Television Awards and the Royal Television Society.

Also starring Adrian Scarborough and Caroline Goodall, the series looks back at Charmian's life from her first encounter with petty criminal Ronnie (Mays), dramatising their marriage in the lead-up to the infamous 1963 robbery and its aftermath.

On IMDb, the series has only two reviews from audience members, but they're both extremely positive.

One viewer branded Mrs Biggs "compelling", adding that they were 'sucked in' to the story and "couldn't stop watching".

Another fan praised Smith's "predictably fine performance" and called the drama an "entertaining journey".

Speaking about working on the project, Mays previously told us exclusively that he wanted to do "justice" to the subject matter, particularly because Charmian was directly involved in the project.
