Normal People, the acclaimed Ireland-set drama starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, is back in the trending chart following its debut on Netflix.

The 12-part romantic drama, based on Sally Rooney's 2018 novel, was added to the streamer on Sunday and has steadily climbed the trending charts.

Per FlixPatrol, the series reached number seven in the streamer's UK television charts on Monday and climbed to the number six spot today. With plenty of time left in the week, could it climb the top 10 even further?

The drama, released in 2020, charts the relationship between Marianne Sheridan (Edgar-Jones) and Connell Waldron (Mescal) from adolescence to early adulthood, with the pair having to navigate various challenges.

Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, Normal People received critical acclaim upon its release, boasting an impressive approval rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes from 91 reviews.

"It sweeps you up in its arms, capturing the very essence of the book – that all-encompassing love between Marianne and Connell that transcends the physical," we wrote in our review, adding that the central pair were "perfectly cast".

"Edgar-Jones brings a mesmerising vulnerability, while Mescal (in his breakout role) muddles the words in his mouth before he speaks, taking great care with the dialogue that Rooney uses so sparingly," noted Empire Magazine.

"It's a beautifully done series about love, sex and class in Ireland that features a pair of indelible lead performances," opined The Boston Globe, while KDHX said that it was a series "not to be missed".

Despite the critical acclaim and sizable legion of fans, it doesn't seem that a follow-up season is on the way any time soon, though Edgar-Jones and Mescal did drum up some excitement as they teased that they had "news to share" last year.

This turned out to be a marathon screening of the series, leaving fans bitterly disappointed. They did offer some hope, however, with Edgar-Jones telling everybody to "keep the faith" regarding a sequel.

Normal People is streaming now on Netflix.
