MobLand season 1 spoilers follow.

Tom Hardy's series MobLand has become a big hit since its debut in March, with fans keen for a second season.

The Paramount+ show focuses on rival criminal gangs the Harrigans and the Stevensons, with Hardy taking on the role of fixer Harry Da Souza as he tries to prevent all-out war between the syndicates.

The show, which is created by Ronan Bennett and executive produced by Guy Ritchie, broke records from the get-go, taking in 2.2 million viewers to become the streamer's biggest global TV launch ever.

Critics were more divided in their reception of the series, though it ended on a note that left viewers desperate for more.

As such, you would expect a second season to naturally follow – though one is yet to be officially confirmed.

Will MobLand season 2 happen?

A second run hasn't been confirmed by Paramount+ – though given its success as well as the words of some of its talent, things look (cautiously) hopeful.

It has been reported recently by The Sun that the show's future is in the balance, though speaking to Deadline in March, executive producer David C Glasser appeared to confirm that there will be a second run.

"There will be, yes there will be [season 2]," he said. "Same team, same everybody. Everybody's coming back, we're all one big family. Same actor [Hardy]."

Hardy himself told The Hollywood Reporter the following month that "the plan is definitely to see more seasons", as he mused on where some of the storylines could go.

"The question is: Does it become international?" he continued. "There are international elements to organized crime, which are touched on in season one and the control of drugs and ammunition and weapons and people and all kinds of things that go through Europe and from Africa through to South America, Pakistan and the variable commodities that move around Europe.

"There are families that are involved in each European country that are vying for power to have that status to be able to move these kind of commodities through and who polices that and how that fits into a world stage."

Fellow star Joanne Froggatt has also said they are "hopeful" for more, telling Collider: "We'll keep our fingers crossed. Obviously, nothing's official yet, so yeah, we're just very hopeful to be able to carry on the story for sure. I'd love to."

MobLand season 1's shock ending certainly leaves things open for a second run, with Harry accidentally stabbed with a kitchen knife by wife Jan (Froggatt) and his fate left open-ended.

However, it appears that if more episodes are given the greenlight, Harry will be back, with co-writer Jez Butterworth telling the New York Post: "I mean, if you think about it, 'is Harry dead?' No. We’re not gonna [kill him off]. We love Harry. We love Tom.

"I felt strongly that, throughout the whole tale, the ball that he [Harry] kept dropping was his home life. It felt satisfyingly dramatic that having walked through fire for 10 episodes, what happens at the end is the one thing he's not expecting."
