The Crown stars Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin reunite on Netflix's upcoming adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

The streamer is producing a six-part dramatisation of Austen's 1813 novel. The literary classic follows protagonist Elizabeth Bennet, an independent young woman who has little interest in getting married but overcomes her prejudices when she gets acquainted with aloof gentleman Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy.

The upcoming series will star Corrin as Elizabeth, while Slow Horses star Jack Lowden has been confirmed to play Mr Darcy — making him the second Scottish actor in the role after David Rintoul, who portrayed Darcy in the 1980 BBC series.

As for Colman, the Paddington in Peru star is set to play Mrs Bennet, Elizabeth's mother who has a flair for the dramatic and whose sole goal seems to be the marital happiness of her five daughters.

While the Netflix series is only about to start production, another Pride and Prejudice adaptation is turning 20 this year.

Directed by Joe Wright in his feature debut from a script by Deborah Moggach, Pride & Prejudice stars Keira Knightley as Elizabeth and Matthew Macfadyen as Darcy.

Rosamund Pike, Carey Mulligan, Jena Malone, Brenda Blethyn and Donald Sutherland also feature alongside Judi Dench in a cameo as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Previously, the enemies-to-lovers couple was portrayed by Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth in the 1995 TV adaptation.

The Pride and Prejudice series will stream on Netflix.
