The team behind Netflix's Black Doves has unveiled a first look at Andrew Lincoln's new ITV thriller series.

The Walking Dead actor is due to make his UK TV return in Cold Water, in which he plays a "repressed, depressed man" called John who moves his family to a Scottish village from London after suffering an identity crisis.

A first still of Lincoln in character has now been unveiled by production company Sister, which worked on Black Doves, with the actor sporting a more clean-shaven look than we're used to seeing in The Walking Dead.

The series follows John's arrival in Coldwater, where he is befriended by a charming next-door neighbour called Tommy (Trainspotting's Ewan Bremner), who is the husband of local vicar Rebecca (Torchwood's Eve Myles).

While John is impressed and fascinated by Tommy, his wife Fiona (Game of Thrones' Indira Varma) is less keen on their neighbour.

However, John is "blissfully unaware that Tommy is harbouring horrifying secrets" and it's after "a series of unsettling incidents start to occur that John begins to wonder who the real Tommy actually is".

"And when John’s long-repressed rage comes to a head with disastrous results, he soon finds himself unexpectedly indebted to his new friend," the synopsis adds.

The show comes from creator and writer David Ireland, with Lee Haven Jones and Andrew Cumming directing the six episodes.

Lincoln famously found huge success in the US by starring in The Walking Dead as main character Rick Grimes, reprising the character last year in miniseries The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

Cold Water will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX this autumn.
