Hollyoaks aired a heartbreaking update for Diane Hutchinson following the cliffhanger involving her ex-husband, Tony.

Tony and Diane’s marriage broke down last year, with the former beginning a relationship with Marie Fielding after the one-year time jump. Despite this, there were lingering feelings between the former couple, with Tony and Diane sharing a kiss on New Year’s Eve.

Monday’s (February 3) episode saw the villainous Abe Fielding - Marie’s son - discover Tony and Diane’s secret, with the scene at The Hutch erupting in violence as Abe stabbed Tony.

As Tuesday’s (February 4) instalment began with a dazed Marie waking up following a car collision, Tony was being taken to hospital in an ambulance. An emotional Diane was accompanied by Ste, with Misbah informing them that Tony should make a full recovery.

Before Diane entered the room, Misbah did warn her that Tony was heavily dosed up on morphine, a fact that would lead to a telling reveal. As Diane comforted her former lover, Tony mistook her for Marie and remarked that the kiss was a “mistake”, leaving Diane heartbroken.

Marie later arrived to pay a visit to Tony, though she got in an argument with Diane regarding the events of New Year’s Eve. As tempers flared, Misbah intervened and said they needed to check over Marie; Diane, meanwhile, confided in Ste that she was crestfallen by Tony’s admission.

A chipper Tony encountered Marie, declaring his love for her in the process. Beaten by the day’s events, Marie expressed uncertainty regarding their future following his betrayal, though Joel implored his mother to give Tony another chance.

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
